Hollywood Go Book - Getting Around Hollywood

Touring Hollywood

There are many ways of getting around Hollywood. Here is some information, and some links related getting around Hollywood and Southern California.

While a car is the mode of transportation most commonly associated with Los Angeles, there are many alternatives available if the prospect of freeways and gridlock doesn't sound all that great to you.

Rail

The Metro Rail System covers much of L.A., with convenient Red Line subway stops right on Hollywood Blvd. The Hollywood and Highland Station is located near the northwest corner of that intersection - look for the sign just outside the stairway and escalators. The Hollywood and Vine Station is on the southeast side of that intersection, across from the Pantages Theatre.

Take the train north to get to Universal Studios and the San Fernando Valley. At the North Hollywood Station you can connect to the Orange Line, a dedicated busway that crosses the Valley.

Taking the Red Line south, towards downtown L.A. will go through Koreatown. At the 7th Street/Metro Station you can connect with the Blue Line, which goes to Long Beach. Continuing to the end of the line at Union Station, you connect with the Gold Line to Pasadena. Also from Union Station Metrolink and Amtrak trains travel to outlying areas.

Bus

Major bus lines run on Hollywood Blvd. and Sunset Blvd. The 780, on Hollywood, goes to Pasadena; the 704, on Sunset heads to West L.A. and the beach.

For complete schedules and routes see the Metro Website.

"Dash" buses - including a Hollywood Line - with a fare of 50 cents (only 35 cents with TAP card), run small circuits in Los Angeles.

Taxi

Taxi cab rides are generally not cheap in sprawling L.A., but can be convenient for shorter trips. Seven cab companies are authorized to cover the Hollywood area:

Bell Cab 888-481-2345
Beverly Hills Cab 800-273-6611
Checker Cab 323-645-8400
City Cab 213-202-5755
Independent Taxi 323-666-2434
United Independent Taxi 323-653-5050
Yellow Cab 877-733-3305
